Square is in

The world is a mess. Nothing seems certain, everyone's seeking comfort; so how can design make us all feel better? Welcome to the new world of "Darwinian aesthetics."

"embracing square allows the fashionable to separate themselves from round-obsessed regular people and still be connected to the soothing simplicity of a form they can relate to."

Round-obsessed regular people!
Why does that strike me as the funniest thing I've read in years.

While I hate to find myself in the round-obsessed regular folks (now if we are talking about round diamonds, ok)it seems to me that hard, sharp times like these could use a little softness, a litte roundness.

Call me "orb-obsessed," as I've always been fond of the orb, which is, if you think of it, sort of a square with ambitions to be round, n'est-ce pas? Perhaps I saw "Sleeper" one too many times as a youth. Anyway, here's a new gadget called an "ambient orb" which changes color based on the state of external information; such as "green" for when the market is up, "red" for when it's down, etc.
