Joe Palladino
In trying to organize the Flashmob for Marty Wenzell (see below), I tried to get in touch with Joe Palladino, who also was an account executive in the early days of Chiat/Day New York.
Sadly, I have found out that Joe died on Dec. 29th while visiting friends in New York. He had heart trouble and it is also thought that he had caught the flu. He was 64.
So on Thursday afternoon, lift a glass for Joe.

Joe was such a wonderful guy and he owned the largest bottle of champagne I have ever seen anywhere. True to Joes fun and generous nature, a few of us sat in his apartment and drank the whole thing one wonderful evening.
I am very grateful to this site becuase it brought me back in touch with Joe over the past few months.

I first met Joe in '80 when he transferred from the LA to Seattle office. He was instrumental in my move to CD New York in '82, where he even sublet me my first apartment on E. 81st. He was a fantastic cook, a great mentor and a very, very sweet man. I'm sure he's giving God a bunch of shit right now wondering why you can't smoke in heaven.

I must admit that my overwhelming excitement in locating this wonderful site was quickly tempered when I read of this news.
I believe Joe was one of the original CD NY's who came from the west coast to open the office in NY along with (correct me if I'm wrong here old timers) Marty Wenzell, Dave Platt, Steve Alburty and of course--Jay and Susan.
He was a brilliant advertising guy who was also a hell of alot of fun to be with (unless you caught him on a day after a lover's quarrel!!)
Even after all of our post Chiat/Day New York days, Mary and I would still get together with him and many times he would have us up to his Bleeker Street place for dinner (and that was always incredible.) We did unfortunately lose touch a few years ago (having kids tends to do that to you) and I'm truly heartbroken to hear this news. A significant part of my own advertising professional history has certainly disappered with this.
I'm going to do all I can to get down to the Old Town tomorrow for Marty'FlashMob to toast this great Chiat/Day legacy.

Sharon,
Of course there is smoking in heaven. That's why it's heaven.

When I came across this site last month and contacted Alburty, I mentioned Joe in an e-mail. My memories of Joe involved his coming into C/D with bags and bags of shoes he'd buy. Joe would breeze into the kitchen (I was cleaning) and he would light up a smoke, mix a drink and and have an ascerbic, funny, witty or otherwise entrtaining remark for me to ponder. I loved his outlook on things. He is memorable for his one liners that would bring it all into focus for me.
Here's to Joe.

Good point Eve...
PS. Would you OK Steve to pass along your email to me? Would love to catch up in a less public forum.
