My 60th Birthday Road Trip

Many people have asked me why the site has been so quiet lately.

I live in the Catskill Mountains now (near Woodstock) and the winters are fierce. Since March 11th was going to be my 60th birthday, I decided to mark the occasion by going on the road-trip to end all road trips. I drove over 12,000 miles. It took me three months. I even flew to Hawaii (another 3,600 miles round trip.)

It is not as exhausting as one would think, although I got sick of fast food. I had friends to visit in most of the places I stopped, so that made the trip go fast! Here's a map of where I went, and because the map graphics hide so much, here's a partial list of where I went:

Mytrip2011

Chichester, NY; Boise, ID; Portland, OR; Astoria, OR; Seattle, WA; the Kona Coast in Hawaii; Wialua Beack, Oahu; Seattle, WA; Qualicum Beach BC; Squamish, BC; Spokane, WA; Portland, OR; Modesto, CA; Palm Springs, CA; Las Vegas, NV; Bruce Canyon, UT; Canyonland and Arches, UT; Durango, CO; Littleton, CO; and then pretty much straight hom on I-90 to home.

I saw many Chiat/Day alums while on this trip, and if you browse through the archives going back to March, you will see many of their names.
