Another Steve Jobs memory

From Marten Tonnis

It must have been some time in the summer of 1984 when I joinedLee Clow and Steve Hayden for a creative meeting with Steve Jobs at Apple, in Cupertino. I was carrying a big leather portfolio case, containing my Apple ads. We entered the building and the elevator took us to the top floor but it stopped on the second floor. A scrubby guy with very long hair, dressed in jeans and a dirty T-shirt,entered the elevator. He was holding a large carton box. To me he looked like a messenger boy, delivering his goods, but Lee Clow and Steve Hayden had a jolly conversation with him. I just stood still, holding the leather portfolio. After the messenger exited the elevator, I looked at Lee, then Steve, then asked: "You guys know that messenger?" They both started laughing, then Lee said: "Welcome to Apple, Marten. That guy was Steve Jobs."
